As a printmaker specializing in etching, Alba Páramo is able to achieve sinuous and precise lines that lure us deeper into the details of her works. Her skills as a printmaker became a natural segue and foray into screen printing. Páramo's interest in fashion and textiles inspired her to transform artworks into clothing. She has has released numerous limited edition drops of her imagery, which include clothing printed by hand.
This etching is inspired by the great need for protection and conservation of natural habitats, particularly jungles. It is also inspired in the antelope "Bongo." In the pre-Columbian Mexican language, nahuatl, "Yolótl" means "heart" and for Páramo, this is the heart of the jungle where a woman is protecting the heart of Mother Earth and all of the living beings that live in her. Páramo always portrays animals in her work with or next to gold and jewels to raise the level of the animal and nature to the same level of concern we have over this precious minerals.
This limited edition consists on ten etchings hand-painted with gouache and golden Japanese watercolor, printed on a Hahnemühle sheet of paper.
The etching printing technique consists of a drawing made on a copper plate which is then inked and hand-printed on a larger sheet of paper. Each print is an original and each one of them will be unique from the other since they are all hand-printed. Edition, title and artist signature are handwritten by the artist under the printed image.
